  1. I don't see what the big deal about this is; the president is acting as a role model for how an education is the only way to get you through life, and be succesful. we watched the speech in our Media class today, and he seemed to have a firm belief on what he was saying, and ultimatley i agree with him.

  2. I disagree with Obama on many things but i have to take his side on this one. Can someone try to find a part of this speech that pertains to socialism. I can't find any. What are the conservatives talking about? I think it is also important to remember though, that the transcript of the speech was only released recently, meaning that many of the people commenting about it probably hadn't even read it. This means that anything being said, was probably simply rumors. (Hey, can someone disagree? I want to argue:)

  3. if you saw the speech, or read the speech how could you possibly disagree!? (don't argue just for the sake of arguing J)

  4. I honestly don't understand what is wrong with this speech. He's just a man trying to promote schooling. Teachers do that everyday. Our own parents do that every day. What's wrong with the president doing it?

  5. exactly, you guys. i mean there's nothing wrong with wanting to inspire children and make sure they're doing their best because ultimately, these children, US, are going to be in his place one day. we're going to be the people trying to fix everything. i don't understand what's so bad about someone wanting us to do well. he's not trying to CONTROL us! he just wants us to be prepared! we NEED to be prepared. i agree with everything Obama said in this speech. it doesn't matter where you come from or how old you are; school is school. you can learn. that's in our power, and Obama was trying to make us realize that. we're going to replace every single person in every job one day, and we all want the good ones. we need education for that. he's just trying to instill THAT in our brains. we're not being "brainwashed" (i heard that on the radio this morning).

  6. What Shqwanza (Kerry xD) said. Honestly, it's just a pep talk. Stay in school. Do your work. It's sorta like DARE. You know, do what you have to. Don't be a bad kid.

  7. I agree with what everyone said. I mean, what's the big deal? And like Andy said...we hear the same thing from our teachers and our parents every single day... what is so different about the president saying the same things? He's just trying to prepare us for what our lives can bring us, ya know? He isn't trying to be controlling. Just because he is the president, doesn't mean that he has to be in a controlling position, which is what position everyone thinks he is in for EVERYTHING. I don't know. I just don't see the big deal.

  8. And I still don't understand the socialist ideas hes presenting. WHAT SOCIALIST IDEAS!?!?!?

  9. I agree, I don't see any socialist ideas! I think it's just the people who are being pessimistic about HIM giving the speech. I would have liked to hear him say the speech. I'd like to hear his voice (as to how much he cares). There are soo many Obama fans that since he is the one who gave the speech, he will automatically have a lot of younger people doing what he says.

  10. This is stupid. Obama is the PRESIDENT! This means he HAS to take on a leader's role. He's just motivating the children, he's not trying to corrupt them with his "evil socialist" ways. Just how stupid are these people?

  11. Media's just trying to find a stupid reason to pick on our president.

What socialist ideas? Are you kidding me? This man has not affected me in any way but has motivated me. I saw thos speech live in French class and I wasn't even thinking about politics. Obama was very real and pragmatic about the situation. I'm sure media and press are trying to get something juicy.

They have it rough, it's not even that controversal!

  12. I don't really ever agree with many of Obama's decisions but there's nothing wrong with this speech. I think the public just wants something to complain about.

  13. heres the dizzle its all just cross policy warfare all of the people who were complaining were mostly republicans without a shred of respect for our president

  16. Yes...I am reading. I love it. Even though no one seems to think there is much to debate here. Zach, as long as you are signed up to comment, you are all good.

  17. I think that the idea of a president, even someone i don't support like Obama, encouraging kids to do well in school is good at the heart of intentions, but: 1) It cost what thousands of dollars? and 2) If kids wont listen to parents, teachers, or even high on life liver transplant survivors then they wont listen to Obama and lastely 3) The controversy that gave Bush and Reagan problems whent they did this should tell Obama to not get involved, especially not when he is losing popularity at the rate that he has. Am I wrong?

  18. If you are saying, just because something hasn't worked in the past, it is not worth doing, then, yes, in my opinion, you are wrong.
