Hello Parents!

My name is Joe Costal, this is my 9th year at Oakcrest, my 7th year teaching in the AP Gov/Honors 2 co-hort. I conceptualized and wrote the curriculum for this course, cumbersomely titled, "Eng Honors 2 w/ AP Gov." This important distinction provided me an opportunity to create a course that focused on current events, government issues, foreign policy and other components crucial to the AP Gov exam, while also staying true to the traditional Early American Lit curriculum.
I look forward to teaching your students, and I hope they shared their syllabi with you. In 2009, I was honored and flattered to receive the Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District’s Teacher of the Year award. I am also the advisor for the Oakcrest Student Council. For the past ten years, I have also worked as an adjunct writing professor at the Richard Stockton College of NJ and Saint Joseph's University (in the summer), where I teach Rhetoric & Composition and College Writing. So, a solid foundation in college-level composition and argumentation will be crucial elements of this class.

I am also one of the district SAT tutors. So, I will provide them with great insight into this important test.

I graduated from Rowan University with an Master’s degree in Communications and a Bachelor’s degree in English. I live in Upper Township with my wife, two sons and twin infants.
