Pakistan & Taliban

Originally, I was going to assign a paper for Monday, but instead I agreed to only require a reaction to any of the multimedia viewed in class as Journal #18. Because of a combination of technical difficulties, my own confusion and various other issues. Each class watched different things. In case you need further ammunition for your journal. Here are links to all the things we covered in class today.

From the NY Times, documentary on Swat Valley.

From NBC, Anne Curry's interview with David Rohde

From NPR, Terry Gross' Fresh Air interview with Rohde

Thanks Sky...Good Question

Sky's point about needing to log in to the NY Times web site is a good one. Now the article has been archived. This means that it is only viewable by those signed up with the Times. To avoid that, link to the parts of the article through the blog. Those links are "permalinked" and should always work. Thank you!

NY Times Journalist...Kidnapped by Taliban

Read this chilling first hand account of being kidnapped by Taliban forces while on a journalistic assignment in Afghanistan. Grab it here. David Rohde the NY Times journalist was detained for over seven months. Read the first installment of the article. Actively read and annotate. Expect to need to know details about the situation. Apply it to your study of US Govt. Watch the "interactive features." Two videos, one is an introduction, the other is a video companion to the first installment of the article. They are helpful and should be viewed first. Respond to the article as Journal #17

Subsequent Parts are not due Monday, I just wanted to permalink them before they wind up in the NY Times archive.
